I love sweet treats – especially the ones that utilize mother natures sweetest gifts to us… fruit!
Last night I was craving something along those lines for dinner. Who says I have to eat a savory dinner? I’m no sheep!
That’s the beauty of intuitive eating – no one tells me what or how much to eat but me. No one knows my body like me. I have given myself a lot of freedom. I mean, I’m in the midst of this fitness challenge, and this doesn’t exactly look like diet food, does it? It’s not.
Because you know something? I have found only ONE THING to be universally true when it comes to nutrition and it’s this: different things work for different people. I could eat all the fruit in the world and I won’t gain a pound. And some people say: but all that sugar!! Oh, you mean the naturally occurring sugar from this melon that grew from the earth? Go back to your protein bar and away from my fruit! You can’t reason to me that that’s any better snack because it has less “sugar”. I’ll stick to this all natural yumminess – my body is an expert not only at enjoying it, but also breaking it down. No mystery ingredients here!
Well, if this plate doesn’t say ‘I love fruit’, then I don’t know what does!
I love this meal so much. Is it breakfast? Dessert? As I mentioned, for me, it was dinner. But this mousse is so versatile – I’m sure you could sneak it in anytime you please. The recipe is clean and dairy free; here’s my simple recipe:
Ingredients (2 servings):
- 1 Ripe Avocado
- 1 Cup Almond Milk
- 2 TBSP Caocao powder
- 1 Teaspoon honey
- A dash of cinnamon
Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. All of these ingredients can be adjusted to personal preference. Mine was not too sweet at all because I found with the cantaloupe and nectarine that it was quite sweet enough!
I topped it with caocao nibs, coconut flakes, and molasses
For me, taking dairy out of the equation is a must. But adding avocado to give things like this mousse their creaminess definitely has it’s benefits. Avocados are high in potassium and fiber. Avocados are packed with 15 grams of healthy fat! They are also high in antioxidants.
Healthy fats, fruit micronutrients, AND aesthetic appeal! What more do I need from a meal?
There is nothing quite like the joy of enjoying something chocolatey completely guilt free. I do have a sensitive digestive system when it comes to eating processed food, so waking up this morning feeling nourished and having a tight, unbloated core was such a blessing!
