Hey everyone!
So there I am in my room the other night, readying myself for bed, when my boyfriend turns to me and notes that he hasn’t seen the typical influx of “gym resolutioners” this year. This observation struck me. When I thought about it, I realized that he was right; the gym didn’t seem to me to be any more busy than usual. I haven’t noticed any new faces.
Hmmmm. Where is everyone?
I was looking forward to seeing all of the new people pursuing their fitness goals this year!
We are about three weeks into 2016 and for most of us, motivation to make this the best year yet is still high.
So what do you guys think? Are newbies discouraged from joining a gym because it can be intimidating? Are they finding other avenues to pursue their fitness goals (yoga, Zumba, ballet barre classes)? Or is fitness just not on people’s radar this year?
Let’s talk about it!
Comment below and let me know what you think!

I noticed this as well. I joined the gym back in November and I was expecting to have to wait for equipment in January but I’ve had no trouble.

Right? I’m so curious to know what this is all about! No complaints over the free equipment though lol!

I agree! Usually the gym gets really crowded but I have just observed a few more people than normal.

Yes, and this has me very curious as to why!

I believe fitness is on peoples mind but there are there during the regular rush monday/Tuesday after work or school . I also think the gym isnt as fun so people are using other avenues as you mentioned yoga, running and races. I hope people find a way to get fit whether at home or the gym 🙂

I agree, I think that people no longer see gyms as the only venue for fitness and people are turning to other classes like barre, yoga and pilates more.

Yoga is on my mind…but private sessions. I just hired a yoga instructor who is going to come to my home. Yay! I do not like crowded yoga studios. I have found there are also a lot more “boutique” type gyms/studios opening. Just my two cents. 🙂

Private yoga sessions sound absolutely amazing! And it’s so true that I see a lot of small ones opening as well, less hustle and bustle!

I didn’t notice a surge of newbies either. Of course, I go around 9 am. When I began my fitness journey, I began in the classes. The weight rack was just too intimidating for me!

There are so many home workout programs now that people may be starting their resolution journeys at home. They cost less and less intimidating.

I hear that! I think it’s a great way to get into it!

A lot of people that I’ve been working with tell me that they don’t have time for the gym, it’s to crowded, they don’t want other people watching them work out, and there is too much going on to focus. Most of my clients are also turned away from the gym because they have been trying it for so long and not seeing the results they wanted !!! Insanity and P90X are huge for men with the eating plan and women have taken to the 21 day fix and 21 day fix extreme. I work with them everyday for motivation and skype workout together sometimes. Just wanted to share what I’ve heard from people I coach from home !!!

Thanks for sharing! It seems that it’s not just one main reason why people are finding other avenues to pursue fitness, but moreso a combination of reasons I suppose!
